What is Low Vision?
Low vision is a partial loss of or impairment of vision that cannot be adequately corrected with glasses, contact lenses or other medical
treatments or means. Low vision can be age related such as Age Related Macular Degeneration or caused by diseases and medical
conditions such as but not limited to Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), Diabetes, Glaucoma and birth defects. Severity of low vision can range
from mild to severe which includes many legally blind persons.
What is a Low Vision Aid?
A Low Vision Aid is a device designed to help low vision sufferers perform many tasks that they would not normally be able to do.
Some examples of Low Vision Aids are items with big buttons and or large print such as specialty magazines and books; large button
remote controls, phones and keyboards, magnifying glasses and video magnifiers.
What is a Video Magnifier?
A Video Magnifier is a low vision device that use a video camera to project a magnified image onto a screen such as a monitor,
computer or TV. Video magnifiers come in many shapes, sizes and configuration such as desktops, hand held, portable, video
magnifiers that connect to TVs and video magnifiers that connect to computers and monitors. Video Magnifiers are also known as
CCTV Magnifiers, Electronic Magnifiers, Electronic Reading Machines and Electronic Readers.
How does a Video Magnifier Work?
Video Magnifiers all work off of the same basic principle of viewing a small area and enlarging that area onto a screen through
magnification.
Who can use a Video Magnifier?
Low vision suffers who can still make out large images and words. It is not uncommon for visually impaired individuals to need words to
be ½ in to 2 inches tall on order to read them.

Video magnifiers can be used for reading mail, prescriptions, TV guides, checks, newspapers, books, magazines or almost anything.
